Move, play, and explore safely outdoors with Winter City Cambridge
Cambridge, Ontario – Experience all that our city has to offer this season with Winter City Cambridge – a new, one-stop-shop website highlighting free outdoor winter activities around the city.
“I know this pandemic has gone on longer than any of us anticipated, and that a province-wide shutdown could see the return of last spring’s feeling of cabin fever,” said Mayor Kathryn McGarry. “But just like the spring, we’ve worked hard to connect the community with pandemic-approved activities that will get people outside to safely explore and enjoy their city.”
The activities have been categorized into three themes to suit a wide range of interests:
·“Winter Connect” focuses on programs and outdoor experiences such as online activities, self-guided tours and sport tips.
·“Winter DIY” encourages residents to create their own outdoor experience including upgrading their outdoor space, getting imaginative with ice and snow, and other projects and ideas.
·“Winter Places and Spaces” highlights areas around the city perfect for winter fun. This includes maps and resources on trails, parks and outdoor rinks for walking, skiing, or skating opportunities.
“Throughout the pandemic, we’ve remained committed to helping our community stay engaged and active through recreation,” said Lesley Head, Director of Recreation and Culture. “With the emphasis shifting to outdoor recreation as the safer option, we wanted to provide residents with a centralized hub where they can learn more about the opportunities in their own backyard.”
The health and safety of our residents remains our top priority. As the City of Cambridge continues to closely monitor the COVID-19 pandemic, programming may be adjusted as the situation evolves based on the advice and direction of Region of Waterloo Public Health and the Province’s reopening framework.
