Update on City of Cambridge summer event season

With pandemic guidelines still in effect, the City of Cambridge’s 2021 summer event season will be running in a modified capacity. The City is excited to report that several familiar favourites are planned to go forward, including Whimsical Wednesdays, Concerts in the Park and Canada Day celebrations.

“I know we are all eager to return to some type of new normal following a very difficult year,” says Deputy Mayor Mike Mann. “We are so excited to be able to take steps forward with some of our outdoor community events. Arts and culture and our wonderful outdoor spaces are the heart of our community. A sincere thank you to staff who have worked so hard to find creative solutions that allow all of us to enjoy our summer in a safe and responsible way.”

New for this year, the City has created two dedicated outdoor event spaces: Forbes Park for the month of July and Churchill Park for August. These spaces will be equipped with supplies that safely allow up to 100 people at a time. Enhanced protocols will also be in place for community safety such as pre-registration, screening, hand sanitizer and non-permeable barriers. These spaces will host 2-3 live performances each week and other organizations are invited to book the space as well.

Performances already planned for these spaces include artists for Whimsical Wednesdays, Cookies and Kids Theatre, Concerts in the Park, and Cambridge Celebration of the Arts (which will be held across two separate days this year).

Announcements around new formats and alternative events may continue throughout the summer as community organizers plan the next steps for their own events.

See below for the status of previously-scheduled City-run or City-sponsored events. For community events not run by the City, residents are encouraged to reach out the organizers directly for details.

Further changes may be necessary at a future date. The City is committed to providing event opportunities even in these challenging times and will continue working to develop alternative solutions whenever possible.
